Peshawar Zalmi won by 34 runs
Peshawar trumped Islamabad in their second match of the PSL 2018 campaign. Islamabad’s start to PSL’s journey wasn’t as memorable as their batting collapsed.
Kamran Akmal started off the proceedings for Peshawar with a couple of his trademark horizontal bat shots. Islamabad bowlers were found wanting with their lengths, bowling short and allowing batsmen to play to their strengths. Runs were dried by Islamabad when Faheem struck twice to remove Dwayne Smith and Darren Sammy but Hafeez chipped in with a 22-ball 30.
Islamabad’s run chase was rattled by Umaid Asif who dismantled Islamabad’s top order in no time. Umaid used his height to a good extent, getting bit of extra pace off the wicket which was evident in Luke Ronchi’s case. Hussain Talat was undone by a brute of a ball whilst Asif Ali was undone by a slower ball. Umaid was denied a five-for on his debut when Tamim Iqbal dropped Faheem Ashraf who went on to make a half-century.
Young Ibtisam Sheikh stole the highlights as well, with 3-20 in his second match. He used his variations to a good extent and picked up the wickets of Samit Patel, Shadab Khan and the dangerous Andre Russell.
Umaid Asif was declared man of the match for his brilliant 4-23.
